Identifying The Main Causes Of Stress
The word 'stress' is defined as a state of affair involving demand on physical or mental energy. Stress has various reasons, several forms and numerous outcomes. Stress occurs when the mind or the body is unable to cope with the effort it is subjected to. When the body is unable to exert itself anymore, it is called physical stress. When the same thing happens to the mind, it is called mental stress. Both forms of stress are equally tough to withstand. Stress may have positive as well as negative outcomes. Sometimes, stress tends to bring out hidden qualities within a person. On the other hand, it may demoralize the person and bring him down. In other words, stress can make or break the person. For example, if an eight year old child is asked to solve five hundred math problems in a day, the child is put under enormous stress. In such a situation, there can be two outcomes. One, the child may stand up to the task and work tirelessly, finishing all five hundred sums. In this case, the child is able to bring out his hidden talent, which would otherwise be latent, since the necessity wasn't there. On the other hand, the child may feel that he cannot do the problems and get demoralized. In such a case, the child would enter a state of depression, which would be harmful to him. The following paragraphs present the main causes of stress that take their toll on a person's mind. Stress can occur due to several reasons. The reasons may vary in style and magnitude. For example, a schoolboy can be stressed by the amount of homework he is given. A businessman can be stressed by the continuous loss in his business. An employee can be stressed by the continuous badmouthing he gets from his employer. A woman can be stressed by the physical abuse subjected to her by her husband. Stress varies in style and magnitude, but the effects are nearly the same. The foremost cause of stress is lack of management ability. A person who cannot manage his schedule will be constantly under stress. Since he cannot schedule, he would be lagging in his work most of the time and as a result, this would stress him out. Another reason for stress is unfavorable atmosphere. A person who doesn't fit in his atmosphere would be put under a lot of stress. For example, if a Chinese child is put in a German school, he would definitely be under stress, since he would be unable to comprehend anything that is being said or taught. Stress can also occur as a result of financial problem. A husband who is unable to earn enough money to support his family would be under great stress. Personal relationships also cause stress. Constant arguments and quarrels with a spouse can cause a lot of stress in a person. Another cause for stress is peer pressure. A child who is not good at studies, if made to study along with a class full of brilliant children will be under stress, being unable to cope up with the standards. In this way, there are several causes for stress, each one very different from another. The primary symptoms for identifying stress are irritation, dullness and solitude. If a person is suffering from two out of the above three, eight out of ten times, he would be under a great deal of stress. In such a case, the person needs relief from stress. This can be provided in various ways. Changing the atmosphere can help. For example, moving house to a different location would help to relieve stress to an extent. Also, counseling can relieve stress. Most of all, the feeling of being cared for will relieve stress completely. A person under stress, if he is given a few words of confidence from his loved ones, will definitely be able to stand up to the task and relieve himself of the stress. |
